Wyoming Home Performance ALLIANCE

For Release:

July 8, 2008

Wyoming Home Performance with ENERGY STARŪ Forms Alliance to Offer Consumer Workshops, Financing

Cheyenne--Wyoming Home Performance with ENERGY STAR (Wyoming Home Performance) announced the formation of the Wyoming Home Performance Alliance.  This voluntary initiative allows Wyoming-based energy utilities and developers, government, education, and private-sector organizations to publicly demonstrate their commitment to encouraging Wyoming residents to take control

of rising residential utility costs by using a comprehensive "whole-house" approach to make energy-related improvements. The Wyoming Home Performance Alliance provides a forum for energy utilities and other organizations to enhance and expand Wyoming Home Performance program offerings statewide as attention focuses on the most expensive-ever home heating season starting this fall. Founding Wyoming Home Performance Alliance Partners include Black Hills Corporation subsidiaries Black Hills Power and Cheyenne Light, Fuel, & Power; SourceGas; and Wyoming Rural Electric Association (WREA).

Wyoming Home Performance's goal is to encourage whole-house improvements for at least 500 homes annually.  Certified Contractors in the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program are trained to perform a Home Performance Assessment to evaluate how heating, cooling, insulation, and other things in a home work together so they can develop a plan to create whole-house, year-round comfort while protecting the health and safety of the occupants.  The contractors then work with the home owner to install the necessary improvements.  Benefits derived from making the recommended improvements include increased home affordability, improved home comfort, reduced utility bills, carbon emissions reduction, and reduced energy usage.

The Wyoming Home Performance Alliance Partners include utilities, energy developers, and manufacturers, local government, and organizations interested in affordable housing.  In a prime example of "coop‑etition", these organizations are teaming-up in this voluntary initiative to provide resources to help consumers prepare for the severe rise in energy prices anticipated this winter.  Planned activities include:

  • Home Energy Makeover Workshop. Cheyenne, October 2008. A consumer-oriented event to demonstrate advanced home performance diagnostic techniques and invite homeowners to take control of their utility costs and comfort by scheduling a Home Performance Assessment with a qualified contractor.

  • Consumer Financing. The Wyoming GEOSmart Loan program in partnership with the nationally recognized Electric & Gas Industries Association (EGIA) will provide unsecured financing options for homeowners to make energy-related improvements.

  • Expanded Training and Analysis.  Local workshops and special training for homeowners and home improvement contractors.

  • Expanded Web Site. A place for consumers to learn more about Wyoming Home Performance and Wyoming Home Performance Alliance Partner resources such as rebates and small-loan programs.  www.wyominghomeperformance.com.

Three tiers of participation are available to for-profit companies and non-profit organizations.  For more information on becoming a Wyoming Home Performance Alliance Partner, contact Tiger Adolf, Executive Director, Wyoming Energy Council, tadolf@wyoec.org.      The Wyoming Energy Council is the ENERGY STAR Partner sponsoring Home Performance with ENERGY STAR in Wyoming with support from the Wyoming Business Council’s State Energy Office.  The mission of the Wyoming Business Council is to facilitate the economic growth of Wyoming.
